Holistic Nutrition
What is Holistic Nutrition?
Over the years I have seen degenerative disease prevalence rates increasing and afflicting people at much younger ages than in the past. In fact, I have seen many previous co-workers passing away from cancer, heart disease, and strokes in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. I was born in the 1950s and I remember back then, my family ate lean meat, fish, beans, fruits and vegetables on a daily basis for a majority of our meals.
I have seen our country change in a very significant way during the time I have been on this earth. On average, people spend a majority of their food budget on processed foods. Coincidently, our overall health in this country has declined and our health care costs have skyrocketed. That brings us to the real issue. What has changed in this country in the last 50+ years? The answer is our dietary habits. Sugar has now gained acceptance in the medical community as a major risk factor in a whole host of degenerative diseases and chronic illness.
Two of the most compelling reasons for the health crisis we have in this country are free radical damage and inflammation in the body. Unfortunately these risk factors are self-induced through dietary choices and lifestyles. Fortunately the damage and inflammation can be reversed through diet and supplementation.
We have a war going on inside of us on a daily basis.

The war is the production of free radicals and how we neutralize the threat. Most people have no idea that the war exists, but it is there. If we choose to do nothing about the internal damage that is in fact taking place, then we suffer the consequences in the long run. Not only do we run the risk of a whole list of chronic illnesses and degenerative diseases, but we also speed up the aging process.
Dr. Andrew Weil who is the Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, put it in plain and simple terms in his recent book, Why Our Health Matters, by advising his readers that we are a nation of disease management instead of disease prevention and its time to make the priority disease prevention.
There is also recent acceptance that our DNA and gene expression is highly affected by our lifestyles, including dietary nutrition. We truly do have some control over our health because we control what we put in our mouth. The time has come to for us to make the commitment to improving our health. The way we improve our health is to learn about food and apply that knowledge in our dietary habits.
"Every day we do one of two things: build health or produce disease in yourself?"

What happens during a visit to a Holistic Nutritionist?
- Consultations will cover the properties/compounds of whole foods and why they are critical to human health.
- Learn about disease prevention through diet, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and autoimmune disorders.
- Learn about how to build up your immune system.
- Learn about the theory of disease and how to apply that knowledge in your dietary habits.
I give private consultations. During the consultation I start with a historical evaluation of the client and a medical history. I work off the information and tailor a nutritional dietary plan with the goal of improving the client’s immune system health and address any chronic conditions. A good part of the consultation is educating the person about food and supplements, which can be quite complicated. There is compelling research that confirms degenerative disease can be reversed. There is nutritional therapy available for heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and many other conditions. I also specialize in injury and surgery healing through nutrition, and gluten sensitivity and celiac disease. In addition to the private consultations, I give group lectures including corporate lectures.
There is an overwhelming amount of information about whole foods and health. There is equally as much information about nutritional supplements. Many vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and antioxidants work synergistically with others and it can be complicated as to how to maximize the benefit from these compounds. It is important to take the right supplements and the supplements that offer the highest quality. I look forward to giving the client practical information about food and supplements that they can incorporate into their life to improve their health.
